Atunguayco cold store, the first one in the valley
and located in the same farmland, was created in 1998 to satisfy the
need to reach the various markets with the fruit in excellent conditions.
The process makes it posible that the fruit enters the cold chain
2 or 3 hours after harvested, in comparisson with the 15 or 36 hours
which is the time that it takes in a traditional cold storage room
(Coquimbo or Valparaíso). Due to this fact, for the last
5 years, in the region of Limari, the cooling capacity has increased
from 1,000,000 boxes to 3,000,000 nowadays. Considering the quality
and conditions, this figure will continue increasing and leaves
Coquimbo installations in a difficult situation.
